The Christmas break is nearly over, or maybe you’ve not even had time to have much of a break and you’ve had to work throughout the festive period. Maybe that can be your goal for next year!
Every business needs to set goals and what better time to do this, than on the last day of the year. Tomorrow is that milestone. Use 31st December as a day to reflect on your business. What great things happened this year, what mistakes were made, what could have been improved. It’s important to remember that every business must make mistakes in order to learn from them and emerge more successful. Write down your achievements and learnings, this will help you to set your goals for the year ahead.
When goal setting it’s essential to be specific. You need to know exactly what it is you need to achieve, how you will get there and what impact it will have on your business and your life when you do make it.
Make sure the goals you set are measurable. How will you know that you’re heading in the right direction for success?
Set yourself goals which are achievable and realistic. I’m sure you know from experience that in January most people make resolutions and by the end of January they have already failed. This is because the resolutions they have made are totally unrealistic so they are never going to be achieved. Your goal needs to be challenging in order to give you motivation but they also can’t be out of reach and unrealistic as this will just disappoint you and have a negative impact on your confidence and self belief.
Give yourself time. Set yourself a realistic deadline and don’t be afraid to review this after the first quarter. Sometimes we hit hurdles which take us off track for a while, but there’s nothing stopping you from getting back on the right path in order to smash that goal eventually! If you have a target you’re more likely to push yourself harder to get there.
As you can see we have used the SMART method to help you with your goal setting.
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Realistic
T - Time limited
